Background

EASL (East Asia Super League) is a premier basketball league joined by professional clubs in Japan, South Korea, the Philippines and Greater China. As its inaugural season, EASL Champions Week was placed in Utsunomiya and Okinawa, Japan from March 1 to 5, 2023.

Strategy & Execution

Together with sport marketing agency HALF TIME, we were in charge of all the public relations activities for the EASL Champions Week, including organizing the opening press conference, managing a daily post-game press conference and mixed zone interview, and handling on-site media inquiries.

For those activities, prior to the event, we have developed press invitation and pitched media, and also during the tournament we have handled communications with global and Japanese media. For five days period, on-site, working closely with tournament management team and participating basketball teams are also key.

Outcome

More than 40 Japanese and international media participated in and reported the tournament, including NHK, Nikkei, Kyodo News among other business and sports outlets. This contributed to increasing awareness of the EASL, which will have the second season to follow.
